Red Squirrel

Red squirrel eating a nut (c) Peter Trimming
Red squirrels have red fur, ear tufts and long, fluffy tails and were once the only squirrel species in Europe. This changed when grey squirrels were introduced from America to the UK in the late 1800s. Even though there are still a few across Europe and northern Asia, they've been over-powered by the america's grey squirrels (Boooooooo!). Red squirrels spend most of their time in the treetops and their daily activity centres around obtaining food, mostly seeds and acorns which, with practice, they can open in just a few seconds. I can barely open nuts with a nut opener and even then it takes me AGES! So please comment what you think the next animal should be! :)
